Original concept art for an advance movie poster. Two-color, high-gloss silkscreen test print on 300 g (12 oz) Zander Chromolux paper, design Cem Koc. The 64 squares symbolize a chess board. They are inspired by Arthur Schnitzler‘s Traumnovelle and also an hommage to Stanley Kubrick's lifelong love of the game. This was an official submission, requested by the Jan Harlan, the producer of the film and Kubrick‘s brother-in-law. Stanley Kubrick still saw this design apparently liked it. He died unexpectedly two days before a decision should have been made, a deep shock to everyone involved. In consequence, the designer withdrew his submission. The final theatrical poster used key elements of this preliminary design. Less than a handful of these test prints were made, one of them is in the official Stanley Kubrick Archive. A one-time opportunity. Minimal border wear, very light surface scratches, overall very nice. With Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, directed by Stanley Kubrick.
